Toilet Facilities
Long Course - you can access toilets at Llanberis Base, before boarding the coach for Long Course. Portaloo toilets are available on the RACE START field for the Long Course (no toilets at Long Race Registration building or in the village). Please respect local residents and our environment, please do not toilet in public areas.
Short Course - you can access toilets at Llanberis Base, before boarding the coach for Short Course. Public Toilets are available at Ogwen Cottage before the Short Course starts.
Long - Race Transport
Long Course – you are recommended to arrive to Llanberis and board the race transport at Llanberis Base to travel to Long Race Registration/Start (no Registration in Llanberis). There is no race day parking available at Long Race Registration/Start (drop off only). Please do not expect to leave your car at Long Race Registration/Start for the day, as this blocks access for village residents and other visitors. If you are being dropped off at Long Race Registration/Start, please ensure you can travel home safely after the race.
Long Course – please help us monitor travel logistics by choosing the appropriate Class when entering the Long Course online. Use ‘Llanberis BUS’ (you are boarding the bus in Llanberis) or ‘NO BUS’ (you are being dropped off at Long Race Registration).
Short - Race Transport
Short Course – you are required to arrive to Llanberis Base for Race Registration and MUST board the coach to travel to Ogwen. Please do not drive directly to Ogwen or you will not be able to start the race.
Travel to Llanberis Base
Please consider reducing car journeys and/or maximising passengers in vehicles when travelling to Llanberis Base. Use of Sherpa’r Wyddfa buses is highly recommended. Competitors are encouraged to lift share with friends and other club runners. Please use the Welsh 1000m Peaks Race Facebook Page to communicate about potential lift shares. Bangor train station offers good links along the North Coast of Wales.
Llanberis has a number of reasonably costed Gwynedd Council and privately owned Pay and Display Car Parks – please utilise the spaces here and avoid parking in residential streets or blocking access to private residences. There is NO parking available at Llanberis Base itself (only for hotel guests).
Race Finish - Yr Wyddfa
The race finishes on the summit of Yr Wyddfa. Please note that Yr Wyddfa Visitor Centre Café is not always open. Competitors must have sufficient energy/water and the ‘Minimum Race Kit’ extra layers available at the summit, and for the descent from Yr Wyddfa. There should be no reliance on Race Marshals being able to provide food/drink/shelter by default. Provision is made for unforeseen circumstances, and this is very limited. Competitors are not able to purchase ‘single descent’ tickets from Snowdon Mountain Railway, descent is made on foot.
You are requested to return your Open Tracking GPS Tracker to Llanberis Base (or hand in on Yr Wyddfa if you are not returning to Llanberis Base). There are charges to be paid for any GPS Trackers not handed in – you can be tracked and found!
You can also return Race Numbers/pins at Llanberis Base for re-use/recycling.
Please note – we are not giving out race medals to all runners on Yr Wyddfa summit this year. Prize winners will be offered a medal at Llanberis Base and ALL competitors are welcome to collect their souvenir race mug from Llanberis Base.
Descent to Llanberis
The most straightforward route back to Llanberis Base is to descend the Llanberis Path on foot (4.5 miles descent). DO NOT stray on to the Snowdon Ranger Path by mistake (do not cross the railway line to descend), as this will take you down to the wrong valley. It is strongly advised to team up with other competitors for company on descent, the leg muscles will be tired and the weather may be very hot or very wet; look out for your fellow competitors! If competitors choose to use other routes (Pyg Track, Miners Track for example), please be prepared to pay for any public bus/taxi to return to Llanberis Base, as needed. It is not possible to be collected at Pen y Pass car park due to the congestion this causes – private cars are not allowed to ‘wait’ without booking parking in advance.
Please note the timing/tracking of competitors ceases at the summit of Yr Wyddfa and you are responsible for your descent from the finish location. Please use your personal judgement and experience to ensure sensible descent, based on your physical condition, the weather, time of day and be respectful of the energy you have expended during the race. An easy walk down is the best way to ‘cool down’, but keep muscles moving to avoid cramp.
Food and Drink at Llanberis Base
When returning to Llanberis Base, competitors will receive a free hot/cold drink and generous portion of hot chips (V/VG/GF/DF). Come back and claim your souvenir race mug, meet other competitors, view the live race tracking and support those receiving prizes. Stay a while and celebrate your achievements!
Prize Giving – approx. 1600 TBC
Please stay and support competitors in the Prize Giving. Various prizes will be awarded to:
